Intro!

I think Cochin Bantams are the most precious little birds in the world. I have a red frizzle, the aptly named Gabby -- who actually sounds forlorn, like Eeyore the donkey -- and barred Sally, a spirited girl with one bad leg who hops as fast as any of the big girls when treats are involved.

Welcome to BYC where many generous folks will be happy to offer their advice, opinions and knowledge. It's good to meet you!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Get your broody girl into a ground nest on fake eggs and try to graft her to the new site. She may fight it at first. It may take her a while to settle in. Manage her broody breaks for her for the first 3 or 4 days. Correct her if she heads back to the nest she started to go broody in. Once she routinely goes back to the ground nest and sets all day and all night, you can give her marked eggs to hatch.
I like to manage my broody's morning breaks so I can be sure she is getting off the nest to stretch, poop, eat and maybe dust bathe and so I can inspect her nest to make sure there are no extra eggs someone deposited that need to be removed. I hang a baby bottle with a vertical nipple on it near the nest for her to drink from. I just make sure it cannot drip into the nest when she drinks.
Have fun with your first broody hatch! There is nothing quite like it.
