(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens and quail. We want to raise both once our house is complete early next year. Doing research to make sure we are within the guidelines of local and state laws, Ohio Dept of Natural Resources (quail). We have over 20 acres mostly wooded hillside and want to have a farm without having horses, cows or pigs. Looking for smaller livestock, and poultry, quail & bees hit the spot. I know bees are not part of this discussion
So, Ohioans, let me know how you maintain a small farm. In southeastern Ohio we have plenty of snow, but nothing like the snow belt near Lake Erie.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? none as of yet.
(3) What breeds do you have? None yet, but looking at Coturnix quail and not sure yet on chickens. Looking for the best egg and meat chickens.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? It is ours and we do not have to rely on the stores.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? love animals and crafts.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am still working. We have both dog and cats. Had sugar gliders, and I would like to have them again. Waiting on new house to be completed.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Just found BYC, and thought I could get some ideas and good perspectives.
