I had previously posted my female American Buff died and was almost a year old when she died. The male of the same age is alone now. Well I just received my female goslings and they will be 2 weeks old this Sunday. When and how do I start to introduce to the male? I know is too soon as they are still very young and I don’t plan on leaving them outside with him until they are fully feathered but I want to get people’s opinions now on how to introduce them to him when the time comes. Thanks.

Most geese have strong parental instincts. I would place them outside in a predator safe pen. It is very likely that he will approach and talk to/bond with them. Worked for me a long time ago when I introduced a human imprinted gander to a half dozen goslings. Within a week they were his and he adopted/protected/raised them.

Awwwwww! I hope he does same thing. He bonded with my hubby and my hubby has to go out there to be with him a little bit everyday. They are all in a predator proof pen. And when I say all I mean I have 4 khaki females and 4 Pekin ducks and a male khaki. The ducks have their own house and I built the geese a house also all in same pen. Pen is 900 sqft. predator proof. Thank you for your reply 😊

Oh one more thing. Are you saying they can go out there before fully feathered? I’m kind of scared of putting them out there until they are.

It all depends upon the ambient temperatures. In my case it was summer. Gus was a 3 or 4 year old Embden gander firmly imprinted on me. He was interested in the goslings immediately and within days was protecting them from me - the previous 'love of his life'. He later paired with one of the geese and raised many broods of his own kids.

Oh ok. I’m located in Orlando Florida and we’ve been having over 90 degree weather. They are still too young, I think. They will be 2 weeks old Sunday. Maybe I will start introducing them when they turn 3 weeks old. Thank you so much I surely hope he does and acts the same as yours did. He just turned a year old in April and he’s an American Buff. Thanks again 😊

When I brought Home goslings for my pair of geese they were day olds I started bringing them out daily just to sit and be around the geese and all the other birds by the time they were 3 weeks Old the geese had fully adopted them papa goose was in love too.🥰 Start your introductions now with supervision so they have time to bond. It’s so enjoyable watching them!

Really wow. Thank you for that. I just get scared he might try to attack them. But I will start since they will be 2 wks old tomorrow. Thanks again 😊

If your right there he can’t you won’t let him. But I bet he’ll want to get close to check them out so don’t scold him for wanting to get close you can tell curiosity over aggressionz

The reason why I say that is because I also have (4) 6 wk old Appleyard ducks and harlequin ducks and everyday I take them outside to the pen my drake khaki attacks them because the ducklings keep following all the ducks. I feel so bad for them but I must continue to do so until they all get along. So I was afraid the male geese would do the same thing to goslings but after hearing the opposite, I feel much better about introducing them. Thank you.
