I am looking to introduce an 18 month old standard hen to existing 2 x bantams and 1 x rooster (all 21 weeks old) who share a coop and the backyard. What is the best way to do this? Do I need to isolate or is it safe to leave them together if I go out? Thanks

Put your hen in at night. Something that I've done is introduce new chickens away from the pen. I don't know what breed of bantams you have, but I know my bantams are very mean to new birds. It takes about two weeks for the birds to be used to each other.

I usually put the new chook in a wire cage in the chook coop for 2 weeks. That way everyone can get used to eachother without anyone getting hurt

Thanks. The bantams are silver pencilled wyandottes but very submissive. They are in with new hen now and she has given them a peck (nothing awful). Have rooster away from cage. Will follow suggestions posted.
