I have already made a thread on Miss Meringue getting killed Friday so I wont repost the story. It still makes me sad. If you are interested here it is: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/804871/something-killed-miss-meringue-white-silkie
Anyway to update you I have bought a one little Silkie hen. She is blue not white like Miss Meringue. I thought it would be better to help her camouflage since she is going to be free range.
We have to drive several hours to the Hatchery so we get in so late it was bed time. I took the Don out of coop and put her and him in a box in the den. We watched them for several hours. They like each other. No pecking. She slept under him. I tried getting her out because i was afraid he would smother her. But I found her under him this morning. He is 21 wks and she is 8 wks. I have separated them from the others. He is showing her how to forage....I think. Either that or he complaining about being the baby sitter. He is pecking at corn and he will make noises and pick up and drop the corn piece but not eat it. She will come see what he is fussing about but does not seem to be eating much. BTW this is her first time in the grass. She grew up in a brood box and then cage.
Any suggestions? I am a little worried about her not eating much. The others seem to eat non stop.
