I 'adopted' 4 ex battery hens last autum, unfortunatley lost one over winter (heart problems I think, she went purple.) but the other three are doing really well, they're all fat and happy and getting pretty tame. I have a pretty big coop and run (for a first build anyway) which could easily house 8 large chickens. I have had my eye on some wyandotte bantams for a while and should hopefully be picking some up next weekend. I have read a little about how to introduce new birds but wanted advice from real people. Do you think this is a wise mix of birds? If so and I get my new chickens, how would people advise me to introduce the new and existing hens?
I had heard that putting new hens in at night can help but I will be picking up the new ones in the morning if I get them... what do I do with them until evening?
