We had 2 ducklings that were almost 6 weeks old. We naively put them in their new pen over the weekend and one got taken by a predator last night (assuming raccoon or possum). I am devastated! 7 chickens, a small dog, and a mini pig and this is the first animal we've lost to a predator!! We moved our single duck back to the brooder until we can secure the enclosure better.
We don't want our remaining duck to be alone. Are there any considerations for introducing a new duckling given how old our current duck is? It seems like ducklings are a lot harder to come by around me than chickens so I am not sure what age the new duck will be but it seems unlikely I will find one the exact same.
