My guinea keets are about 11-12 days old. They're being fed a combination of game bird starter and chick starter, but I introduced some additional new foods/treats a few days ago (mealworms, which they LOVE, shredded lettuce, grapes, white millet, and chia seeds). Should I start offering them "Chick Grit" now also or should I wait until they're completely off of the gamebird/chick starter? I was told that the starter has grit in it....?

Trying to find out the same thing - but I've already given mine some. They seem crazy for it. That always scares me. :)

I live on a sand dune so I use the free sand for the bedding. Sand is fine grit so my chicks, poults or keets all get grit from day one. I normally also start giving grass clippings starting on day 2. Currently I can't offer my new chicks grass clippings since what little grass there was is currently buried under 10" of fresh snow.

There is no harm in offering grit from day one but there can be harmful effects if offering treats without offering grit.

Good luck.
