I had posted last week as my mallard accidentally escaped her pen, flew away and never returned. As my male mallard has been fretting, today I bought a 1 year old golden cascade duck. She is slightly larger that the mallard. I have them in cages next to each other. When can I put them in together? We have had long and difficult experiences with chickens but I heard ducks were easier? Any advice would be appreciated.

Try letting them in the run during the daytime, putting them back in their respective areas, for about a week. Then attempt an overnight stay together in the coop.

If you notice any picking that is getting out of hand you may have to keep them close to each other but separate , You'll just have to watch and see how it goes. All ducks are different in how they accept a newbie.

I free range all newbie Ducks to give them more room during introduction..Ducks usually have no issues. They will neck tie and chest bump. Possibly chase around a bit. For the most part them follow each other around. Put out treats and extra water bowls to entertain them.
Give it a try. It will be okay.

Great news. After spending the night in a large dog crate in my drake's pen, I let my new duck out. Not a single nip! They are just waddling around drinking and eating together. She even has been nuzzling the top of his head. She is quite a bit bigger than him so he's probably in shock. And there was an egg in the dog crate this morning!
