Hi all, I am new to this forum and also new to raising chickens. Have built an 11' x 11' coop out of a corner of a barn, with a 12 x 12 run outside. Two days ago, I received 7 chicks, 5 weeks old. They seem to adapt well to new environment. A neighbour is offering me a mother hen which is hatching some eggs, expect them to be born in the next week, don't know how many. She is willing to give me the chicks once they are born. The mother will come with the chicks and I can keep her for some time until the chicks are old enough to be on their own.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed to introduce the mother/newborn to the 5 weeks old flock ? Should they be in a seperate section of the coop from the flock of 7 ? How would you feed the mother and the newborn ?
