I have had chickens now for almost 2 years, but have read a lot of info in Story's Guide to Raising Chickens. I own 8 hens right now, 7 are in my coop and 1 is living in my basement after being attacked & nearly killed by my rooster. The hen in my basement is a Barred Rock, a very sweet hen. It has been 4 weeks since the attack and the hen is doing well now & is ready for reintegration back into the coop.My 1st attempt to put her back in the coop did not go well. The other hens attacked her & I had to bring her back inside. It is winter here now & very cold outside . My basement is heated with a woodstove. My other hens are 1 buff Orpington, 1 Rhode island red, 1 Delaware, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, & 3 Araconas (Easter eggers). Got rid of the rooster. All of my hens were raised by my husband & I since they were chicks. We hand fed them so they are friendly & will come to us when we call them. We have alot of land so our hens free range during the day & go in the coop at night. I have a large vegetable garden & compost the chicken poop for my garden. The hens in turn, get veggies from garden. Looking for advice on getting my hen back in the coop with the others!
