I have been thinking of adding a few birds to my flock. Is there a right or wrong way to bring them into the flock?

Hello,

If you are talking about adding new birds to an existing flock, you should quarantine them for 30 days, far away from your own flock. Make sure that the new are not even breathing the same air. This is to protect your existing flock from any diseases that the new birds might have, but not showing any symptoms.

Once that is done, make a separate area so the existing flock can see the new, but not touch. After about a week or two, you could let them in the run together, under watchful eyes.

If no problems, then you can integrate them into the coop. At night time seems to work for alot of chicken owners.

Good luck, have fun!
