introducing new chickens

My chicks are eight weeks old and a friend gave me five twelve week old banties. I introduced them at night when sleeping like I was told to. But the next day my Rhode Islands were being bullied by these banties.the Rhodies won't leave the hen house is this normal behavior?

Just give it a little time and all will be well. Your RIR will kick the pants of any of those banties in short time. Introductions are always challenging... Unless the pecking and fighting gets fierce, and there is injury and blood, things will normalize soon. If there is serious injury, then separate the injured one for safety. I always had a mixed flock and there is always a pecking order. They all live in harmony. New comers are usually treated with discontent initially. In short time all is well.
