I have 8 chicks, 6 Golden comets and 2 Amber links, i want to get 2 Buff Orphingtons (if i can find them), what i am hoping to do is get hatchlings or get them up to two weeks of age as the ones i have. If i was to get them at the age my girls are at now or younger what is the procedure of introducing them to each other? do you quarantine the new ones?

I incubated 6 babies and my partner brought me 6 from the feed store...I mixed them all together at about 2 weeks....they did fine. I have NEVER quarantined my chicks or even full grown hens, maybe I shoud have, but I have never had a problem.

I add my new chicks in with everyone else as soon as I bring them home. I am getting 4 Cochins on Thursday and they will be going right in with my 3 week old Silkies, Frizzle, and SLW's. They will be a little smaller than them, but not much. I won't put them in with my other 11 because they are about 6 weeks old now and way to big for little babies.

ok i brought home 6 (i think i have an addiction

) hatchlings and i put them in with my two week old golden comets and amber links and as funny as it was to watch the black hatchling run over to the two weekers and try to bully them, as the two weekers all huddled in a corner looking at the hatchlings like WTH

lol. after a few minutes the older ones where going over and pecking and one grabbed the little ones foot

so i seperated them for now. Should i wait to put them together maybe a week till the hatchlings are a lil bigger?

My DH brought home 11 chicks today; I put them in with the BO chicks that are less than a week old. The new chicks ran to the BO chicks like they were Mama and the BO freaked out. They had been very quiet since they arrived but they began to cheep loudly. The new chicks were trying to get under them

So I set up a smaller brooder for the BO chicks and they are very happy now.

what is "normal" behavior when introducing chicks, like what can i expect to happen, and when should i intervene? i am going to wait for my new lil ones to be a week then i will put them all together, i want to wait till the babies are off of the paper towel but i want to make sure i stop bad behavior and not be overly crazy when they are doing something normal, lol
