Introducing new hens to one existing chook

My little flock of 4 is now down to just 1. I want to get her some friends. There are lots of posts on introducing new chooks to the flock. I only have a flock of 1 - best way to bring in perhaps 3 more? The one I have left was top of the pecking order. Any suggestions? Somehow keep 3 separate for a month but in sight of each other and then try them together?

a single hen can be tough, I think I would add a single bird, wait a couple of weeks till they get it worked out, then add the strange pair to the pair. This will keep the numbers the same, and everyone will have at least one buddy.
