Introducing new hens

Hi! I have 3 buff orpingtons that I have had for 2 years. We have a farm and I have recently built a large coop and purchased 5 hens and a rooster from a neighbor. What is the best way to meld the bunch? I tried letting one of the buffs "hang out" with the new girls but they immediately starting jumping and pecking on her. The rooster ended up herding his girls into the coop and singling her out - I'm assuming in an attempt to mate her but I took her back to her house.
