I just adopted a hen today from a neighbor. She was giving Sofia away because she thought Sofia was lonely. She's been by herself for a while.
This is only night one, but she refused to go to either of the roost areas - she's all by herself on a stick roost in the run. I tried to put her on the roost with the not-so-smart three chicks (six weeks old) and the two month old only child chick, but she immediately flew off three times. I did not try to incorporate her into the coop with the nine original hens (a year and a half old).
Should I just wait for her to figure it out or should I try harder to get her to go inside?
She just seems so sad and lonely.
