Hi all, we had 2 roosters get in a fight and one basically lost an eye. We have kept them separate since. However, we are leaving to go on vacation. Problem being we live in MN and the weather is going to get cold again. The coop that the injured roster is does not have heat. His injured eye (I did take him to a vet and got meds and drops) is kind of bulging and I worry about the cold freezing his eye causing more discomfort. I could put him with our 8 hens, their coop is heated. Is it OK just to place a rooster with hens? Will they pick on him because of his eye? He's healthy and fiesty besides the eye thing. Unfortunately, we are leaving today...

Stick a heater in his coop. You already know sticking him in with the hens without taking time to observe how the hens will receive him is a bad idea. You can buy ceramic emitter bulbs that are safer than a red heat lamp.

Thanks, that worked. Back home from vacation and rooster doing well!
