I recently joined BYC, and prior to that enjoyed reading posts as a guest. I had 2 broody Sussex chooks and got them some fertile eggs for Christmas!!

These girls did the work for over 2 weeks, and had a bit of a roster happening with the other girls. For the last few days, one of my ISA browns turned all broody!!

She is turning out to be a great mum!!

I'm pretty new to all this, so I am quite excited by it all!!
I have 15 all up (plus these 2). 2 light sussex, 2 coronation sussex, 4 ISA browns and 2 Welsummers. Then there are 5 that are around 16 weeks - australorp, blue Orpington?, 2 RIR (I think one may be a roo) and gold laced Wyandotte with a crossed beak. I'm pretty sure these babies are a gold and silver laced Wyandotte. The shells were marked, but hard to read when in pieces!!
We are in the middle of a hot spell, so trying to keep them cool is a challenge.

It was awesome!! I could hear the little chirps and was trying to figure where the sound was coming from, then saw the tiny hole in the egg. The gold popped out late Monday night and the second one the following morning.

That's right while you have a hot summer - we are freezing our tails off. There is an aussie thread "Australia, six states and one funny little island," if you want to find out what your mates are up to. I'd say you have quite a good flock thanks to your broodies.

Thanks, I've seen that thread. Great to share with fellow Aussies, but also nice to see what the rest of the world is up to as well. Can't imagine what it would be like dealing with snow and all that ice

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! The chicks are adorable, and the girls such good mothers.
