Introducing two new hens to our single existing hen.

Hi Connie,

Congrats on successfully integrating so many at one time! That is amazing. Did you quarantine yours at all?

Our new hens are the same size and breed as our exiting hen. I hope that makes a difference. They're also the same age, but our girl is either one or two months older. Thanks!
I hatched them 6 months ago. So there was no need.
I have another 40 or so to chuck in there a couple months from now as well. The older birds are being replaced slowly but surly. Some are 5 to six years old and egg production decreases as they age. But still eat just as much food. Eating into profits. They will be sold off shortly.

Good luck with your flock. Best regards.
connie.

Hi!! Thanks for your help, this is really useful info! We have enough space to put them about one football field length away. Do you think this is ok? Otherwise, we have an extra bedroom that we used for our brooder many months ago. It's been deep cleaned many times since and we could set them up in there (it's a fairly large space), what are you thoughts??
Are you prepared to lose your current bird?

If not then keep the new birds as far away to make sure they are healthy first/for a while.

The stress of moving to a new location alone is probably enough to bring out any illness they have (IF they have something) and you should notice soon.

You could always just skip the whole quarantine process and start working on integration immediately.

I would be devastated to lose her, which is why I was wondering if you thought keeping them inside in a room was better than keeping them separated by a distance of one football field.

No I didn't think keeping them inside your house is better.
Their potential illness could just spread around your house and you can carry it (on your clothes)out to your birds without even realizing it.
