Introducing young chickens together.

I have had 3- 8 week olds together for about 2 weeks. I wanted to get another possibly a polish that would be 3 weeks younger. Is this a big problem?

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily going to be a problem, but if you can get a small dog kennel or small wire pen that they cannot get out from, that is what I used to introduce my chickens. It’s normally a dog kennel or pen that they can be safe in, the other chickens can see them, but can’t hurt them. I keep them together for about two weeks this way and then I open a small gap so that they can still have a place to retreat to if they feel that they are bullied.

Here is a pen that I use for the tiny chicks to introduce them to the larger ones. I did this outside, but it’s OK to do it in their weathering yard.

In my experience, this is the best way. It has kept the bullying down from every time I add two new chickens to my flock.

these are two very young silky chick females. I think it’s cute that the silky rooster I have, my only rooster by the way… Is hovering around the pen to protect them. He’s a good boy.
