Introducing .....

Thank you. Sounds like yr pretty experienced with Silkies. Could u advise? We have 4 Roos - they all seem to get along ok but one is a bit mean so may have to depart. However, one of the 3 girls is on her egg and clearly waiting for a chick in about 17 days time (not that I'm counting)Thinking we should put a little box inside the chick house for her to delegate her from others whilst keeping her in sight of them. Other girls wanna lay in same nesting box she's in! Don't think chick will survive with all of them. Best to superstar mum n chick til it can fend for itself? What d ya think? Grateful for help here.
Laying in the same nest is common. I think they figure if one likes that spot it must be the best...Lol
Additionall boxes may help, but if you can put mom and little in a separate section of the coop, but where she can still interact with the others thru a fence, you'll keep them safe but have less trouble putting them back together when the chick is bigger.

I would definitely seperate her off if you plan on letting her hatch that little egg, a small pen or box with food and water will do nicely. My grandad unfortunately did not do this when I was little and when some eggs began to rot and smell he took them to the woods and smashed them , unfortunately another hen had been laying and when he smashed her egg, there was a chick probably only an hour away from hatching, it died in the impact and was eaten by the pair of buzzards that lived in the woods. As the Roos I would definetly sell off 2 maybe 3 when they get older, silkies are very gentle and from what I’ve heard and seen 2 cockerels will happily live with 3 hens, unless you plan on keeping the bigger slightly meaner one, as he may pick on the other rooster, however this could make him a good protector for your flock.
