I have 2 ducklings, hopefully females, that are about a month old that I want to introduce to my year old drake. He knows they are there and tries to get into their enclosure in the garage when he comes in at night. He lost his friend, also a drake, several months ago and he is very lonely. My ducklings are both female I think as they are both sort of quacking. Would there be a problem if I let him in the pen at night but kept them separate during the day? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't let him in unsupervised, drakes can be vicious to ducklings and kill them. At a month old they're still very small compared to him.

Does he actually see them, or just hear them through a wall? Seeing each other through a fence is the first step of introduction between strangers. Just seeing them will give him company too. You could feed them treats on each side of the fence.

He's only heard them. They're in with 4 poults so I've been leery about letting him in with them. I got them from a local big box store on the cheap bc they weren't cute little fluffballs any more so I don't really know how old they are but one is beginning to quack. I will take your advice and put a wire screen up so he can see them at least. Thank you.
