I have my 12 and even though I traded two big for two little I have to restrict myself since I have to carry water to them in the winter and it really is not cheaper by the dozen. lol Last winter I only had 9 and a couple of my babies I hatched are Mule Ducks and huge so they will need more food and water. I try not to look in the bins too often, it's sooooo hard to control myself. Craigslist also should be off of my list but I love looking. lolYes my friend it sounds like it is Game On!!!! lol
Aw! That's a nice trade, babies are cuter. I'd throw it all on a sled and drag it out, I'm lazy that way.I have my 12 and even though I traded two big for two little I have to restrict myself since I have to carry water to them in the winter and it really is not cheaper by the dozen. lol Last winter I only had 9 and a couple of my babies I hatched are Mule Ducks and huge so they will need more food and water. I had a Rouen Hen that my big Muscovy Drake mated with. I hatched out three eggs. One was a Drake and I am almost sure the other two are hens . They have the head of a Rouen Duck and the big beautiful gray black barred body of a Muscovy Duck. My Husband thinks they are the prettiest ducks he has ever seen. They are sterile but can still lay eggs, they would just never hatch. It is like when they cross the horse with the donkey and get the mule and it is sterile or is it the horse and the mule and get the donkey, I forget, lol. That is why they are called Mule Ducks. I love them but they are really big but very pretty. I traded my Khaki Campbell Drake and my big Mule Drake for these two little cuties as the bigger ducks were hard on my females and these little fellas won't hurt them. Thanks for the idea of the sled. If I could keep the buckets on it that would be great. Someone else suggested I use one of those cloth hoses which I have and bring it in once it coils back up each time. I think I am going to try that as the hose does reach my pen since it is up next to my house. I am glad that you have a pretty good setup for yours. I am not getting any younger but don't want to give them up as I love them.Aw! That's a nice trade, babies are cuter. Before Feb. 4 I didn't have anything, now I have 14 chickens(plus 8 that have been rehomed) and 4 ducklings. I chose the hard route and chose to hatch everything myself, except for the random purchase of ducklings. We are pretty rural so craigslist isn't used much for us, we rely more on local FB groups since marketplace won't let you list them. Fortunately, most of the listings are for roosters, drakes and peacocks so I can easily tell myself no.
I'll have to look up a mule duck, I don't think I've heard of them.
I had trouble finding the FB places that sold live poultry. I didn't know what to look under when I thought of trying to first rehome my Khaki Campbell Drake. I had him on Craigslist for 4 bucks but no takers and not where it should of been but with a few other animals where mostly the farm equipment was instead of the animals. I don't do so good with technology and am Blessed to be able to do this! lolAw! That's a nice trade, babies are cuter. I wish I could but do not have the technology to do so. They are on my FB account under Deborah Laughlin, my picture is of three people, myself, my son and husband. It is an open account so if you have FB you could see them. Sorry I can't do better than that. I would love to be able to share them. They are beauties. Please share photos of the muscovy cross ducks!
I found a Deborah Laughlin whose mallard hatched a lot of ducklings last year. The photos are great and the ducklings lovely. Are the mules the two that you hatched in the incubator? My son and I have muscovy and pekin and I am very interested in crossbreads with the muscovyI wish I could but do not have the technology to do so. I am surprised that you could not find the photo that I put on there just yesterday of my flock showing it. You can see the one really well in it. Yes, two of them were hatched in a cheap incubator that I bought online. The other one was under a Mallard Hen but after 28 days and hers hatched out, she abandoned the nest. I took the remaining eggs, candled them and saw a head in the hair space of one of the ducklings. I put an air hole in it, put it in a styrofoam home made incubator with a light on it and after a few more days pealed it out of the shell. It was a sticky duckling and I washed it right away, put it back under the heat lamp and it is just fine. That was my third one. My Muscovy Male had no problem in mating my Rouen Hen and did it on land as I have no pond. He is a big black barred beautiful drake and he has one Rouen Hen that he likes really well. That is why he is in Drake Jail right now. Her underneath was practically raw which I did not see until she stretched her wings one day from his big claws. She is just fine though but he was over mating her. Good luck with yours. If you would private message me with a phone number that you trust me with I can send you pictures of them from my phone. I am sorry that for some reason you cannot see them.I found a Deborah Laughlin whose mallard hatched a lot of ducklings last year. The photos are great and the ducklings lovely.
