I have a backyard flock of 8 older hens and 3 baby chicks. I've had chickens for over a year now, and really love it. My little establishment is called: Lay Inn.

The three baby chicks I bought were marked as Rhode Island Reds, but only the one seems to be. The other two are quite light. I'd like another opinion though!

The two light ones I'm almost certain are pullets. The darker one, which seems to be the only Rhode Island Red, I'm not sure of. If anyone knows what breed the lighter two are, that would really help!

Many thanks!!

The darker one...

And the lighter two...

Welcome to BYC!

Your birds look like Red Sex Links to me. Those are a hybrid (RIR crossed with a white breed) and are marketed under several names. They are wonder producers of large brown eggs and are curious, friendly birds (at least our 3 are).

Enjoy your flock and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

welcome I have a few like that, got them from an old man that was thinning his flock. Funny looking but good layers, he called them red,s or production birds, Good luck Merry Christmas,

We're glad to have you.

I would say that at least the darker one is a Production Red (hatchery quality Rhode Island Red). The lighter ones may be Production Reds too, or Red Sex-Links.
