Hi, I am the proud mother of a mallard duck. (S)he is 4-6 weeks old and has been having an issue with his nares. When he breathes I can hear it in his nares, but it's not a wheeze and he does not mouth breath. I put my ear to his back and his chest and didn't hear any congestion. It sounds like it is simply in his nares. He has constant access in water deep enough to bathe in and I put him in the pool almost every day. He's kept inside at night, so I don't think it's a cold. I bought him some oregano plants and have been letting him eat out of the pot and have sprinkled dry oregano over his food. He's very chipper, playful, and energetic and other than that seems healthy and happy. I do not want to use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, but also don't want to put his health at risk. At what point should I get antibiotics? Any suggestions on how to help him?
