We were lucky enough to have our first egg finally come on the second day of our first hatch! Neat!
I'm a single (divorced) mom of three little boys - a four year old and twin two year olds. I started raising backyard chickens to give the boys a pet, and a useful one at that. Nine chickens and an incubator full of eggs (we're selling most) later - I'm a crazy chicken lady now.
We live in rural Idaho, so it's a good hobby to have here.
We have Cuckoo Marans (English Standard), an Araucana, a Partridge Rock and three Buff Orpingtons.
Our first egg came from our Araucana today -
And we have 8 chicks hatched so far out of 18 (6 CM's and 2 Araucanas), and it's day 22. I'm hoping we get a few more - there are some pipped, but I'm just praying we get a decent hatch rate. This is my first go... so I think any hatches are a success! I'm so thankful for this forum. I've learned SO much already!
