(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My first chickens were given to me by my Aunt back in '07. She gave me 12 hens and a rooster because she was "tired of fooling with them". Although none of that flock is left, I've kept chickens ever since.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have one lonely hen (thanks to neighbors' dogs getting loose) and 12 new chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Not really sure. I buy from my local TS and usually get a mix of red pullets. I also decided to get some banties straight run. So time will tell.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google. :D When I first started, I used google to figure out everything (as well as my local library). This site has been popping up pretty regular every time I had a question.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

What aren't my hobbies?! I do a bit of this and a bit of that. I try to keep busy...

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am a SAHM of five ages 10, 7, 5, 3, and 6 months. Been married to Hubby for almost 12 years now. I'll be 32 in October. We live in a somewhat rural area but still relatively close to a major city. Hubby built my coop/chicken run from some plans I found in a book loaned from the library. We hope to add rabbits to our "backyard farm" this year.
As for chickens, I don't think of them as pets so forgive me. I feed mine mostly kitchen scraps and let them free range when I can. (We are putting up a new fence after the last dog fisco). I sell the extra eggs and use the money to buy commercial pellets and bedding. Usually, I break even except when I have to replenish stock. :(
