Hello, Thank you for allowing me to join your group. I grew up military (Air Force), married and divorced military. I have two grown kids - well no longer kids - they are 39 and 36 years old. I was 18 when I had my daughter. After I divorced moved to multiple states (AR, FL, IN, back to AR, and now in NH). I moved to NH to be with my soul-mate.
I am working for a government contracting company, and graduated with my Master's in Business Administration.
About four years ago, I bought a house on 5 acres of land an hour drive from work. We moved out here so we can become self-sufficient. I want to grow my own vegetables in raised gardens, and raise chickens for both eggs and meat. I want to start out with 6 hens that are cold hardy. The land has a lot of trees. Waiting for my boyfriend/significant other to thin them out. That said, I do not have my chickens or garden yet. Last summer tried growing some things in containers. Chipmunks and squirrels ate the produce before they became ripe. So one of the things I would like to find out is how to deal with these pests to keep them out of the raised gardens once I have them built.
I look forward to the articles and learning about chickens.
