introduction to anxiety personified

yes, wonderful pictures! maybe jericho is siamese, hes a talker and doesnt have short legs, at least I dont think he does. and my other two dogs are chocolate cockers too, I just love the color, though after all the vet bills with their health issues, not a fan of the breed anymore 😖 kismet(green) is blind so she doesnt even see the snapping turtle. they all sleep in my room but go into the fenced backyard during the day, except the black dog that's my fathers.

And Star. The best dog I ever had in my life. I never had to teach her anything she just did it. She has never been on leash she heals and goes where I go no matter where that might be. She is going on 13 yrs. now.

Are they English Cockers? Way back in the day (1970's - ) a particular pair of breeders was coming up with unusual colors in Cockers (allegedly American Cockers) ,chocolate (liver) chocolate and tan, sable, etc etc. No where was there a place in the breed standard allowing them but they persisted and people bought them like hot cakes.

Sadly the parents & pups etc. where not tested for PRA, familial cataracts, Hip dyplasia, a type of hemophila that certain lines, carried. On and on. Many folks got the color they wanted but also a host of very serious eye and health problems. Turned a lot of folks off American Cockers even though the serious breeders were still putting out sound/healthy, tested stock.

I'm sure the same could be said for many very popular dog breeds. The folks in it for $$$ and their 15 minutes of fame abound. While serious breeders work hard to keep quality & health up.

Thank goodness for that. The breeders with the unusual colors were located in Indiana. But I don't know of their existence later than the 70's. Used to have 5 Cocker magazines being published monthly . Then it dropped like a boulder and only one was left - run by someone in California.

Just realize my comments were intended for "Zydrate" new member - her Cockers with high, high ear set and long narrow muzzles, do not appear to be American Cockers at all.

English Cockers are a very distinct breed and not at all like the American Breed.

There is mention of the high vet bills etc. Which brings out what I mentioned above about breeders just coming out with unusual colors and selling big bucks, but, not testing for any health issues in parents or pups. Modern Cockers from 1970's forward didn't have tails docked to a little button.

Oprah appeared on her TV show often with her Chocolate American Cockers, that were very good quality. Would have loved to know what breeder she got them from.

:gig Why yes you are ! LOL There will never be another Star . Have you ever seen a dog you could take in the car to a crowded place to walk for the first time and they auto heal? Shoot, she even run to the back door when she was sick.
