In the Brooder
I already posted a new thread this weekend, but never properly introduced myself...
My husband and I just bought his grandparent's 13 acre farm in WNC in the summer of 2017. He works full time and I tend to the land while caring for our two year old. We have big dreams but are starting out very slow. I used to work on an urban farm where we always kept laying hens. Long term I hope to raise our own meat and eggs on our farm and learn about breeding.
I received a shipment of "assorted" unsexed chicks from SandHill Preservation. They are just about 3 weeks old now and a large number of breeds. From my memory: Orpingtons (black, blue and splash), Barred Hollands, a White Crested Polish, Norwegian Jaerhon, and Black Penedesenca. When they are a little bigger I will probably post pictures for help with breed identification and figuring out who is a roo!
We also have four guineas who are about 5 months old and a chocolate lab-pit mix. Glad to be here!
