I am Abby, I am a high school student and me and my father LOVE chickens. Our family has had chickens for 4 years. We have 15 chickens and 2 ducklings right now. We started with 4 pullets- a black sex link, 2 rhode island reds, and a white leghorn. The next year we go three more- a buff brahma, an araucana, and a golden laced wyandotte. Our 7 chickens were doing very well until 2 years ago when they were free ranging and a heavy storm started. The golden laced wyandotte, the araucana, and the white leghorn were all gone. The white leghorn's carcass appeared a few days later on a neighbors door step. She was our best egg layer. We waited through that year and got 4 more chickens again next year. We got 2 columbian rock crosses, a black australorp, and a brown leghorn. One of our Rhode Island Reds died last year while we were away. All of our 7 hens that survived, we still own. We tried hatching eggs this past April and the power went out on day 20, so no littles hatched. Then we got 6 chicks! 4 cuckoo marans and 2 black jersey giants. We were told they were all pullets but at 12 weeks old, one of our black jersey giants is showing all the signs she is actually a he. We got another 3 chicks in May- a silkie, a golden laced polish, and a mottled cochin bantam. Our Polish (profile picture) was murdered by our dog a few days ago. So sad and hard to deal with her death. Our silkie was bought straight run and we can not tell (it is 9 weeks old) if it is a boy or girl. Our cochin is definitely a boy (we also got him straight run). We also have 2 four week old ducklings! One Swedish blue duck and one white layer duck. So cure but so messy!
So to sum up all of our chicken madness, we currently have:
Beauty (Black Sex Link), Rosie (Rhode Island Red), Pepper (Buff Brahma), Raven (Black Australorp), Caramel (Brown Leghorn, Chalky and Ivory (Columbian Rock Crosses), Alessia, Ariana, Adelyne, and Ariana (Cuckoo Marans), Donny and Arabella (Black Jersey Giants), Ronny (Mottled Cochin), Willow (White Silkie), Becky (White layer duck), and Beatrice (Swedish Blue Duck).
So to sum up all of our chicken madness, we currently have:
