I got my first 18 chickens last April. I purchased 12 new chicks this April. I also purchased 12 19 week old pullets about 3 weeks ago, and I have 12 new chicks coming in August.
I've got mostly Rhode Island Reds and Red Sex Links, but I've also got a couple Brahmas, Austrolorps, ISA Browns, Black Asians, and a few others
My boyfriend and I live on a 50 acre farm in South Jersey. We raise steer and pigs, so it just seemed natural to get chickens. I also enjoy being able to provide people with delicious, fresh eggs.
I enjoy yoga, kayaking, horseback riding, traveling, photography, and reading
My boyfriend and I have been together for 18 years. He has three adult children, 2 boys and a girl (25, 21, and 19). We've got 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs (which are actually my class pets), 2 horses, and numerous pigs and steer. I teach secondary special ed, and my boyfriend is and owner/operator truck driver.
I'm not sure when I found out about it. It was long before I had chickens. I also joined a long time ago, but I don't think I ever introduced myself.
