(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Relatively, had chickens for a little over a year, got my first chicks in March of 2019.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 10 chickens!
(3) What breeds do you have? With the exception of the first three (EEs) that I purchased from a feed store, the rest have been rescued. I have: blue laced red Wyandotte, Mille fleur bantam Cochin, Rhode Island Red, mottled Java, Buff Orpington hens and a white Austra rooster and an undetermined yet beautiful rooster.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Their personalities! I adore watching them interact with each other and their little quirks. My Mille fleur is the most recent addition (she showed up in a neighbors backyard and after three days I was able to gain her trust enough to pick her up, nobody claimed her
) and she hangs out in my lap for hours, chatting with me and my dogs and snacking on mealworms.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I am also an opera singer, avid reader, and fan of history.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I also have two Goldendoodles that are my chicken wranglers/guardians and I teach music history at university.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Found through Google and want to get involved with fellow chicken fanatics!
