Hi, I am Karen and I live in Cumbria, UK and I currently have 2 cockerels named Tweedledee and Tweedledum. They each have 8 hens, most are rescue hens and then two black rocks (Roadrunner and Polly) and three old girls (who do not lay now) Maize who is a Maran, Ava and Wilma who are both Araucanas. My rescue hens all have names associated with Harry Potter. I have a small holding of around 5 acres and my boys and girls have coops, indoor runs, then large outdoor runs and then pop holes into the field. I only let them in the field when I am there to watch them after I lost a few girls 2 years ago to a Goshawk. I also have three dogs, a golden lab and two springer spaniels. I am married to a wonderful man who is a police officer. My plan is when I only have one cockerel (not that I am wishing either away of course) is to build Cluckingham palace and I have loved reading about the different ideas on this site. I work full-time as a Partner, for an accountancy firm and head up the payroll services for clients and our internal HR function. I look forward to exploring this site further. I will add some photos of my girls and boys soon.

Thanks for the welcome, I have pictures just need to download them from my phone soon! The names for the cockerels came about as one of my lovely old girls went broody 4 years ago (I was new to chickens so didn't even realise she was sitting on eggs!) and out of the 8 eggs only two survived and I had no idea what sex they were hence the names now and they just stuck! I love them to bits they are so friendly but when you see photos they are huge boys. Maize the Maran is definitely mum to Tweedledee as he has speckles and Tweedledum is full Araucana. Their dad was called Colin but I lost him two years ago to a stroke but he lives on with these two scallywags. I do have to keep them in separate areas though as the boys are competitive with each other but I use a brash material on the mesh so they cannot see each other! Off to clean them out now, will post photos later. Thanks Karen

You might want to check out the BYC mobile app. I enjoy using it and it is convenient since all my pics are on my phone.
I'm always wishing that I could keep a cockrel from my 3yr old rooster, Doris. But they never get along with each other. Every day I tell him "when your gone, I'm having two or three NICE boys that get along because there is no way that you can keep up with 34 hens." He ignores me 😉 & does his best to keep up with the hens.

Some photos I will post more once taken!
