Finally got around to doing this, hello I am a small poultry enthusiast from Southcentral/Southeast/Western Alaska (Family from opposite sides, I’ve been around). The obsession began with ducks and now extends to geese, turkey, chickens, coturnix, pheasant, guinea, pigeons and in the future I wish to dip my toes in the world of exotics and wild fowl keeping. I’m not set on raising bobwhite or chukar, but poultry has a funny way of happening. You go to the swap meet “just to check it out” and come back with a truck full of birds…
Ratites are not legal here, it’s an ongoing debate, no good reason we shouldn’t have em here…
Currently at a smaller establishment so I have to keep the numbers down, I like letting them have space. I am at the mercy of chicken math, though.
New to buying birds directly from a hatchery, it’s been quite the experience; also decided to raise some day turkey poults, they sure are cute but not as hardy or forgiving as ducks.
My favorite form of poultry are ducks, they never let me down. Hardy, forgiving, great personalities, egg laying, and meat. Oh and plenty of breeds, colors, and traits to choose from and cross. Looking forward to some breeding projects in the future.
