hi, i’m echo! i’m probably one of the younger members here, and i’m starting college soon!

1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

my family and i have been raising chickens for a while now! i think ~5 years? i haven’t been counting, honestly

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

~20 full size hens, 2 roosters who live with them, and 16 bantams (both pullets and cockerels)

(3) What breeds do you have?

Brahmas, Salmon Faverolles, Easter Eggers, Welsummers, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Golden Comets, Olive Eggers, Belgian d’Uccles, Cochin Bantams, and a few barnyard mixes.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

watching them grow up from cute little fuzzballs into beautiful birds, and their unique personalities! i love getting to know them and taking care of them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

playing video games, horseback riding, reading, and drawing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

i have a 12 year old quarter horse named Simon, and several pet cats! i just graduated high school and i’ll be starting college in the fall :D

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

i found BYC by googling questions i’ve had about my flock, and i decided to join so i could easily access information. i also wanted to join a community where i could discuss chickens and how great they are!

i can’t wait to learn more about chickens here, as well as talk about them in general! as an aside, i usually type in all lowercase, so i hope that won’t be a problem/annoying. thank you for having me!

Hello Echo, welcome to BYC! You'll be surprised at how many members are in your age range, or even younger.
Will you still be tending to your flock when you go to college?
to the best of my ability! i’ll come home to tend to them every chance i get, but i’m sure my mom will help tend to them while i’m away. we’ve been doing it together since the start, so they aren’t exclusively my flock, haha!
