Yes, it was too bad about the rooster, but my grandsons' safety came first.
I actually had some in the incubator, and saved every single egg for the next couple of weeks as well just in case they were still fertile. Of the 19 I incubated after the roo 'retired' 5 hatched.

Welcome! Sorry about your rooster, but I'm glad your nephew is a little safer now! Does that mean these eggs were hatched from before your roo peaced out?

I am afraid that joining this forum is eating up a lot of time! So many things to learn! Thank you all for sharing your abundant knowledge. I am now pondering how I can introduce my chicks to the rest of the flock asap, by providing them escape from the big girls. Now off to feed my chickens some garlic...
