With all that Chicken math going on and a horribly built and undersized coop, did Construction Math quickly ensue?

Oh yes immediately! I have a list of chicken breeds I want in the future. This is by far the most fun hobby I've ever had.

Yes. I'd love to do that but I'm married to a perfectionist engineer. When he finally finishes the coop and run, it will be gorgeous. Meanwhile the chicks are moving to a dog crate outside in a decent run. It will work.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

Some breeds tend to be more lap oriented than others. However if you work with them as tiny chicks they friendly up fast. Lock away all danger, lay down an old sheet on the living room floor and sit with the chicks on the floor. They will naturally gravitate to your lap and trains them your lap is a place of safety and comfort. Do this for 10 mins daily until they go outside and you'll have lap warmers forever.
