Hey there! Here's my introduction; I have been involved in poultry for almost 12 years, however have only raised them personally for 6. My oldest hen is turning 11 in one month, and she is a part of the first flock I was ever involved with! I have 8 chickens as of right now, 3 are 4 weeks old and 4 range from 1-3 years. My 5th adult is, as I stated before, turning 11 soon! I have two isa browns, two starlight green eggers, three ameraucanas, and one plymouth barred rock. All are hens. My favorite aspect of raising backyard chickens has to be learning about their health, since I'd love to start studying poultry health when I go to college. Some of my other hobbies are: gardening, sewing, painting, cooking, baking, and pottery. I have three cats, and one Belgian draft horse named Hank. I found BYC through Google almost a year ago, and am finally making an account.
I've had several live into their early teens, even one hen making it to 14! Senior birds are such a joy.
