Hi! My name is Heart and I use He/Him pronouns. My family has kept chickens for a long time off and on, more as pets than for their eggs. We have never kept roosters because they are illegal where I live, but we've been considering raising chicks for a while and we are going to soon. Currently I have one chicken, Hazel, who I believe is an Easter Egger, but we have four new chicks arriving in July, so I would love to get some advice on making sure they all get along and on socializing her in general. Hazel is around a year old. I love raising Hazel because she is just a great companion and I am very passionate about making sure she is doing well and staying healthy. In addition to chicken husbandry, I love to embroider, draw, and make beaded bracelets. I am also starting to study psychology in the hopes of working in educational psych some day, and I have two dogs and a cat. Hazel is attached if anyone wants to see.

Hiya, Heart, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Hazel is beautiful! I don't know much about other breeds than silkies, but could she be brahma?

Does she go broody at all? Maybe the timing of your new chicks could be that she raises them. Otherwise, I'm assuming you'll raise them in a brooder in your house, then after a couple of weeks, want to put them outside. She may or may not accept them, so you might have to put them in a pen when they're outside with her, until they grow up a little more. They'll also get used to each other that way too.
