Hi, everyone! Thrilled to be here!
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Third group of chickens. The first were received as a rehoming project, the second were ones that I purchased from my local breeder, and now my third group are four lovely little semi feral hens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have four and I’m adding two more this afternoon.
(3) What breeds do you have? I’m adding two silkies, but my other chickens are hybrids. They are all pets, and if they give me the occasional egg, I’m still happy with them.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I was raised on a cattle farm—no chickens. I have been excited to learn how intelligent and affectionate they are. There’s nothing like watching the chicken run to you when you call it!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I work too much to have ongoing hobbies. Woe to me!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a retired attorney, working in nonprofit.I still live on my childhood family farm, about 200 acres. Most of it is leased out, but I retain about 11 acres for my personal use. I have seven cats, one dog, four chickens, and two horses.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I just found you guys after doing a Google search for answers about castrating Roos.
