Hello Everyone,
Greeting from South Western Germany..... My name is Brian, I live in Eppingen Germany, in a small farming village. Recently I decided to start my own backyard flock to provide us with fresh eggs. Having a farming background I am no stranger to chickens. Although I must admit it has been sometime since I tended my family's flock as a boy. Anyway, I found this site very informative with lots of friendly and helpful folks. At this time my son is building our backyard chicken coop, but bad weather has hindered his progress. We plan to purchase 10 hens and one Rooster ( all Rhode Island Reds).... I also cure and smoke my own meats, my wife bakes breads,cakes and canning. We are country people at heart and love doing as much as we can the old fashion way. We own a fachwerk haus and bauerhof built in the 1700s (no one know for sure, cause they are all dead). As we are getting older we appreciate the old ways more and more when people were more self sufficient. I hope to make some friends here.... stop by from time to time to say Hello, we'll share a bier and wurst.
