Hello! I am Chance and my mother, Bridget, and I have two Golden Comets. I live in California and it sure is hot here! I am the youngest of seven kids (yes, seven)

.Our girls names are Daisy and Dixie and we love them dearly. One of them lays us double yolk eggs almost every single day (probably because we feed them so well

) We let them free range in our backyard and I don't ever have to do any yard work because my girls do it for me! They eat the weeds, poop on the ground, and scratch and till the ground and all I do is feed them and collect the eggs! Every day my mother and I go out and watch the chickens be chickens. We pet them and feed them grapes (they go crazy for grapes). I am so thankful for my two girls. They bring my mother and I joy every single day no matter what. My mother and I are going to get two more very soon.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community! Sounds like you are enjoying your hens. Double yolks are usually laid by young pullets just starting to lay. It can also be passed down through genetics from the parent birds. If her momma was a double yolk layer, she might be too.

Pretty hens! Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC, Chance and Bridget. Glad you decided to join our flock. Daisy and Dixie are very pretty and I love their names. Thanks for posting the pics. Golden Comet is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those two girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with Daisy and Dixie.

I am looking forward to the future with my girls! Any advice and/or tips for helping my girls through this atrocious weather? It is so hot here in California! I provide water 24/7 and periodically wet the ground. They have plenty of shaded areas.
