We're from Texas, living in a smallish community on the coast. A lot has changed since 2020 & we're definitely aware that we must look out for ourselves. We started a small garden for the very first time; of Tomatoes, Zucchini, Cantaloupe, & Bell Peppers. Adding Barred Rocks x2, Rhode Island Reds x2 & 1 Easter Egger to the fold has been more fun than I ever dreamed possible. (I do love animals). We have 2 small dogs, 1 cat & I'm very fond of my potted plants & bed plants that may or may not survive the Hens! LOL

All in all, I'm here to learn & share what I find important or interesting. Thanks to everyone who started this site & all those who contribute with questions I may not have thought of & the answers that help us newbies along the way. I look forward to building relationships & sharing information.

Thanks so much for having me!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

If you are truly fond of your plants you will fence them off or fence the chickens out. They will decimate them. If not by eating them, they will scratch exposed the roots to dust bathe under them.

Welcome!

Glad to meet you! Congratulations on your new garden and chickens. DobieLover is right - chickens are just death to plants! They are great once you have finished harvesting your vegetable garden for the year. Put compost down and let the hens scratch it in for you. Use their waste as compost (you definitely need to age it before putting it down in any quantity). They coexist with gardens, but you have to sort of control it! Best wishes with your gardening and your chickens!
