(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up on a farm with lots of animals -- including chickens. I remember a lot of bantams. Others I don't remember the breed. I have never personally raised chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I am in the process of getting 5 chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm looking for lavender orpingtons

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
A google search for information

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
art, writing, education, technology and innovation

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm an art professor / gallery director. I live with my two young sons - we have standard poodles. We have made a backyard coop and are planning to raise our chickens for eggs and as pets.

So glad you joined us at Backyard chickens :wee Standard poodles are really nice dogs but, I know I don't have to tell you that. I used to work for a dog handler in the '70's and he showed several blacks to championship for a local breeder. They were sane, sound dogs with a great sense of humor.
