Hi all, I'm Ella, I have a flock of 4 chickens and two turkeys. Except all of them but one chicken have run away, but we're keeping an eye out for them, and listening for turkey chirps and gobbles. No signs of predators yet, but we know to not keep high hopes. But still, it'd be nice to get them back.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We're not new to chickens, we fist got them a few years ago, when I was about six, so 6-7 years ago, but my mom's boyfriend at the time kept the chickens, (and all the other animals for that matter, we hold a special spot for him, and it's not a good one) and we just bought a house last summer, and we got chickens again.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We kind of have two groups, one of two bantams cause they were getting picked on by the other chickens and especially the turkeys, and then the other group, which only includes one at the moment. :(
(3) What breeds do you have?
Bantams, as mentioned before, and the one we have left is a Lavender Orpington, name Lavender accordingly, then we have one araucana, and two copper marans. Two turkeys, an adorable pair, Einsa and Henry. Einsa's the tom, and Henry's the hen. I named Einsa when he was a chick cause he had a little one on his head, and idk how many of you happen to know a little german, but ein means one. Then my mom named the hen Henry, because she thought it was funny. Hen-ry, idk I though it was weird.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Bonding with them. Lavender was in the house for a while after she had gotten injured, (we think she scraped the back of her neck on the chicken wire). It was pretty bad, so we kept her inside with a little bandage wrapped around her neck. One day my mom came home to me sleeping with Lavender dozing on my back. Mom stopped it their and made a nest out of a wicker basket. I still slept with her though. When we first got Einsa he always slept in my hair, and I always love when they climb up your belly and roost in your shoulder, it's the cutest thing.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I got a professional camera for Christmas this year, and I've made a website and a business. So far I've just taken pictures of my animals. But I'm looking to expand my portfolio! My website is grosbeakphotography.wordpress.com. :)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have four goats, wonderful little buggers, very climby. And they are not as small as they used be, but they still hop on our shoulders. Two dogs, and a cat in the house. That's it, but I'm trying to get my mom to get a calf. I want a calf. Just the one. When Mom was with that other boyfriend, we had two horses, two pigs, like 20 chickens and 20 ducks, and five dogs. He took literally all of them except our own dog. Boston was very much my mom's horse, and that sucked a lot.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know you cluckers.. Below are (in order) my goat and my mom's goat. Mine is the darker brown one, Pigwidgeon, and Mom's is Hazel. Einsa our tom. One of our dogs, Myra, she's insane. My best chicken, Lavender. And the last one is Tom Bombadil. We have a fourth one, but she is incredibly shy so I can't get good pictures of her.
