Saucier,Ms.
I have Bob white and coturnix(separate pens) that are grown and have bitties I will have to put in the pens with the others when they get old enough........and wondering how to add them to it?

I don't know about the bobwhites, I've heard they are very aggressive. The coturnix can be as well. I have coturnix mostly, and only a couple of baby bobwhites. Whenever I add new ones to a group of coturnix, I have found that moving everyone to a new cage kind of throws them off enough to not fight. Some quail just don't, and others are little boogers.

I agree with Shelley - if you add a few to an existing group, they'll get picked on. Might be ok but then again some could lose some eyes or worse. Moving everyone to a totally different cage does help because then they are all trying to figure out where they are and not focusing so much on the "new guys".

Hi,

This is the method I use:-

Find an old wire bird cage, and place in cage with the new birds inside (with food and water), You move the cage and new birds every day for about three days, the other birds get used to them quickly. After 3 day, I remove the cage and they get along fine mixed together.I've never had any problems with fighting.

That's Fine For Coturnix, But The Bobs Are Still Going To Be A Problem! As Shelly Said They Are Very Agressive. For The Bobs I'd Say That I've Only Had Luck Introducing Females To An Existing Colony As It Seems As Thothe Males Will Never Accept An Outside Male. So I Take The Extra Boyz And Eother Put Them Togather In A Bachelor Pen, Or Start New Groups. Although I Am Going To Try The Cage Method I Have Lil Hope Of It Making A Difference With The Bobs (hey... You Gotta Try Right?)

I know most of you are saying that the Bobwhites will peck and be really agressive but I think the opposite of that. I have A&M's, Coturnix, and Bobwhites all penned together and there is rarely any fighting. The littlest Coturnix are actually the bruisers of the flock. I ave one nicknamed jumpy. Whenever I go to pick it up, it flies either at me or straight up. They are all so funny to watch.

Cody!!
