Our incubator starting smelling really really bad the last few days, we left it be because we had eggs to take out tonight and figuared that since the smell had just started it was not going to hurt one more day or so.. When taking the eggs out and puting them in the hatcher , I found the problem, an egg had busted and smelled.. It had not really oozed much of the yummy insides out , but it was enough to smell the bator up really bad and the whole room when we opened the door.

MY QUESTION....
We have eggs in there that are not due out till the 23rd.. If these were our eggs, we would just take them out and call it a loss, but they belong to someone else that we hatch for often. Will the smell now leave since the egg is gone? The eggs in there have not been in that long and I am unsure if it would have hurt them with it just being a couple of days, we are just worried about the smell and if it will go away or linger till we can clean it out after this coming hatch. I dont know if anyone knows the answer to this , but we will take any advice..

THANKS

Removal of the egg should make a big difference. If any of the ooze is still in the bator it will continue to smell a bit. Just clean it as best you can.

THANKS.. I did just that , and today , the smell is not as strong as it was the other day , the chicks that were in there and due to hatch are hatching just fine , Thanks again for your advice

We borrowed our neighbour's incubator and cleaned it out with bleach and water, left it outside in the sun, and it still smelled. We can't get the smell out. We have an older incubator of our own, and it doesn't smell at all. Anyone know how to get the smell out after the hatch? I figured it's because the borrowed incubator doesn't have a liner. The liner I bought for our hatch didn't fit their's or our old one as the design has changed.
It's so exciting. We used our old incubator about 20 years ago for our son's school project, but have never personally hatched any. We can hear them in there and have cracks in 3 eggs so far (that we can see).
Our 3 year old grandson is staying with us and is very excited as well.

I find that OxyClean really works well at getting odors out-
I'd try filling it with hot soapy water and a scoop or two of OxyClean, then putting it out in the sun for a day or two (with the water still in it), then rinse it out and let it dry.
Good Luck!

Thanks. We have about 6 new chicks since 7pm last night. Kind of crowded in there with all the eggs that haven't hatched yet. Still waiting for a brown egg to hatch. Nexgt time, we'll be certain to candle.
