Iodine in drinking water

You are right about those other birds actually requiring Iodine supplementation when in captivity, but I don't find it a good practice to assume that it is automatically applicable to all birds. See the study I linked in my previous comment for (scientific) information about Iodine toxicity in chickens. In my mind, if you care about a thing, you don't go haphazardly applying medications to it. In fact, if we did that to our kids, they'd be taken straight away.

That is true. I haven't given it to my chickens yet because I have not had the time to study it yet. Thanks for the link. That will be helpful.

Can anyone that uses iodine in chicken's drinking water give some recommendations on dosage? Using a dropper and a 2% solution, how many drops into how much water?

I used an 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water when my flock got fowl pox and a couple had wet pox. Never lost a bird.
I am making a gravity fed water barrel for am automatic waterer for my chickens and ducks and I read to add iodine and since you have used it :) is any 2 percent iodine good or is there something I should be looking for specific? They say they have alcohol in them and that kinda seemed bad but maybe they all have that..idk.. and did you use clear iodine? Seems brown would make it hard to tell if the water was dirty or not lol .. thanks in advance:)
